Smart City System

// Smart City System · Freeflow Parking

Software instead of barriers.
License plate instead of paper ticket.

Vehicles drive in and out. The software takes care of the rest.
No barrier, no ticket, no downtime.

  • No barrier queues, no staff needed at the entry
  • No downtime risk from broken hardware
  • Higher throughput with the same number of spaces

// Customer Journey

This is how Freeflow works. From the driver’s perspective.

A smooth process without tickets and without barriers. The benefits arise automatically in daily operations: higher throughput, less hardware, fewer staff, no downtime.

  1. Enter

    No stopping, no ticket.

    No queues
  2. Capture

    License plate is recognized automatically.

    Less hardware
  3. Park

    Park as usual with no risk of losing a ticket.

    Fewer disruptions
  4. Pay

    Digitally via app, QR or payment machine.

    Flexible payment
  5. Exit

    Anytime – without a barrier.

    No downtime
Optional up to 48h
Pay online afterwards

If desired, pay online up to 48 hours after exiting.

Higher throughput
Less maintenance
Less staffing needed
Robust operations

// The real challenge

Barriers are a bottleneck: technically and operationally.

Mechanics, tickets and support cases make operations fragile. If one component fails, the entire flow is affected immediately.

High hardware effort

Barriers and ticket systems require maintenance, spare parts and cause disruptions.

On-site staff required

Blocked barriers, lost tickets or payment errors often require manual intervention.

Downtime when something breaks

If the barrier doesn’t open, drivers can’t exit – directly impacting operations.

// If nothing changes

When hardware fails, business stops.

Queues & frustration

Broken barriers instantly create queues and unnecessary disputes.

Unpredictable costs

Service calls, spare parts and emergency fixes add up; often during peak times.

No scaling effect

More locations mean more hardware, more staff, more risk instead of central control.

// The difference

Freeflow removes the barrier from the process.

The workflow becomes software-based: capture license plates, apply rules, assign payments without a mechanical bottleneck at entry and exit.

ANPR instead of tickets

Entry and exit are captured automatically: no barrier, no ticket.

Payment without bottlenecks

Digital payments without barrier logic: no queues at the exit.

Central control

One rule set, one system: managed across locations in the ParkAgent.

// Comparison

Barrier vs. Freeflow – the operational difference

Same criteria, clear side-by-side comparison. So you can quickly see where barriers create effort and where Freeflow stabilizes operations.

// Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from private operators.

With freeflow parking, customers drive in and out without stopping, without a ticket and without a barrier. At entry and exit, ANPR cameras automatically capture the license plate, which serves as the digital replacement for the traditional parking ticket. From that moment, the software handles the entire assignment of parking duration, tariffs and payment. Since there is no mechanical bottleneck, there is no backup of traffic. Throughput increases noticeably with the same number of spaces available.

The case of a license plate not being recognized at entry occurs only very rarely. Depending on the operator's preference, either an "honesty pay" process can be initiated, where the customer must/can enter the entry time themselves, or the customer can call support and have the entry created manually using the support module in ParkAgent. The person can then pay normally at the machine. In no case does this result in an unjustified wrong-parker incident.

Appropriate signage informs customers accordingly. In addition to explaining freeflow, tariffs, privacy policy and terms and conditions must also be displayed. We are happy to assist you in creating and producing the signage.

Customers benefit above all from a seamless experience with no waiting times: no barrier, no ticket, no traffic backup at the entrance. The license plate replaces the entire ticketing process. Nothing gets lost and nothing needs to be pulled or inserted. Payment is made flexibly via app, QR code or machine. Anyone who forgets to pay can, if desired, make a retrospective payment online up to 48 hours after exiting. The overall experience is significantly simpler and faster than with traditional barrier systems.

A switchover can take place without interruption or with a brief operational pause, depending on the on-site conditions and individual arrangements. In the ideal scenario, it is possible to install all hardware (license plate recognition, machines and, if applicable, remaining space displays) before the go-live of your facility and activate everything at the time of go-live. Existing barrier systems including machines are then dismantled or initially left fully open.

Yes, the system is GDPR-compliant. Data processing takes place exclusively within the EU, transmission is encrypted, and defined deletion periods apply.
