About

The Smart Parking project is a collaboration between Vodafone, Smart City System, and PRS Parkraum Service. The goal is to utilize modern technologies for digital parking space detection and management. Vodafone contributes its expertise in the IoT sector, while PRS and Smart City System provide innovative solutions for license plate recognition and sensor technology. This partnership allows for the optimization of existing parking management systems and the introduction of new digital services.
Challenge
Traditional parking space monitoring was time-consuming and inefficient. PRS Parkraum Service previously relied on manual checks by personnel across Germany. This led to high operational costs, limited control, and inaccurate recording of parking violations. Additionally, there was no central, automated solution for analyzing and optimizing parking space usage. The increasing demands for sustainability and digital networking made a more modern solution necessary.
Solution

The introduction of Smart Parking technologies has helped overcome many challenges. Sensors for detecting parking space occupancy, automatic license plate scanners, and digital data processing enable efficient management. The sensors are installed on parking spaces without the need for complex construction work and are battery-powered. License plate scanners record entry and exit times, allowing for precise control. A digital platform also enables flexible management of permissions and an API connection to existing systems.

Transformation
Manual checks by personnel are no longer necessary, as sensors and license plate scanners ensure precise monitoring 24/7. This leads to more efficient use of parking spaces and optimized management of parking permits.
As drivers receive real-time information about available parking spaces, the time-consuming and environmentally harmful search for a spot is eliminated. This results in less traffic, improved air quality, and a more sustainable use of urban parking spaces.
The system's modular architecture allows for individual customization to meet various requirements. Operators can incorporate additional features such as barrier control, payment systems, or integration with existing mobility platforms.
