raumobil GmbH develops smart, sustainable mobility solutions in the B2B sector. The products are created from a proprietary modular system (smapkit) that was developed specifically for mobility platforms.
The Challange
To date, the data on parking spaces in the city of Detmold in the Mobilitätsplattform smap (Smart Mobility Map), which was developed by raumobil GmbH, is mainly static in nature. This means that the locations of parking garages, shared parking spaces, bus stops, handicapped parking spaces or e-charging stations are known, but their actual real-time occupancy (free / occupied) is not available. Thus, live occupancy data provides a great added value for the platform, as its data quality and, consequently, its benefit for the end customer increase significantly.
Solution
Smart City System’s parking space sensors are installed on the ground on the individual parking spaces. In this way, the sensors reliably detect every vehicle that parks in the parking spaces. Each parking process is detected in real time and the live occupancy is displayed in the raumobil smap.
Transformation
The Oberelbe Transport Association and the 12 transport companies cooperating with them offer modern local transport for residents and guests of Dresden and the region. In addition to the state capital of Dresden, the network area, which covers around 4,800 km², includes the districts of Meißen, Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge and the western part of the district of Bautzen.
Park & Ride Smart Parking
Challange
The Park&Ride parking spaces in the VVO are used daily by drivers who park their vehicles at the station and want to continue their journey by public transport. The transport association lacked an overview of the current utilization which would be beneficial in that it could show free parking spaces to the users and to plan future parking spaces with the help of the historical data. Extensiveconstruction work on the parking spaces was to be avoided during digitization.
Solution
The Smart City System solution helps to digitize the parking spaces at the Park & Ride facilities overnight with the easy-to-install ground sensors. The real-time data is displayed on various software applications of the Oberele Transport Association. Commuters can thus be effectively guided to free parking spaces, as they
can already find out about the current occupancy before departure.
Transformation
The connection with current public transport data enables multimodal travel chains. Switching to public transport is easier and leads to higher usage rates.
Euro Rastpark GmbH & Co. KG
With currently 18 locations, Euro Rastpark GmbH & Co. KG, part of the DV Immobilien Group, is the largest private provider in Germany and thus the market leader.
The Challange
One of the challenges for Euro Rastpark was that truck drivers could not see the availability of parking spaces in advance and therefore often encountered a full rest area. This situation led to frustration and a possible loss of potential customers. The question was therefore how to provide information about available parking spaces as early as possible.
Solution
Sensors were installed in every truck parking space at the rest area. In addition, a remaining space display was installed at the entrance to the site. Real-time occupancy with parking space sensors at the truck stop makes it possible to monitor and manage the availability of parking spaces in real time. The sensors detect the parking of vehicles. This information is then forwarded in real time to a central control system, which displays the availability of parking spaces on a digital map and LED display.
Transformation
With the ability to find out about parking availability in advance, truck drivers can save time and fuel by not having to drive around unnecessarily looking for a parking space. By monitoring parking lot occupancy in real time, rest area operators can plan better and tailor the service to meet the needs of their customers.
With scientific support from the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau, the city of Zwickau is pursuing the goal of developing an intelligent and efficient charging infrastructure for commuter traffic.
The Challange
The city of Zwickau has already had e-charging stations since 2020. However, it was unclear how and at which locations the parking spaces at the charging stations were used. The charging data was therefore not sufficient to get an overall picture.
Solution
The Smart City System solution helps to obtain an overview of the parking situation and the blocking of charging points in the city of Zwickau. Extensive construction work or further alterations to the ground were not desired. By gluing the sensors, these requirements could be met in full. In addition, there was no need to organize a power supply, as the NB-IoT sensors used function autonomously.
Transformation
The live data collected by the sensors is checked daily in a dashboard and thus directly helps to identify anomalies in parking behavior. The historical evaluations and statistics also play an important role, as they allow the measures to be observed and analyzed over time. Parking behavior at the individual locations can also be compared with each other.
Henkel AG & Co. KGaA is active worldwide with leading innovations, brands and technologies in three business areas: Adhesive Technologies, Beauty Care and Laundry & Home Care.
The Challange
Solution
“Smart City System offered exactly what we were looking for: A simple, browser-based application that perfectly digitally replicates the logistics parking areas, making it easy to draw conclusions about current conditions. In addition, the installation of the sensor technology can be carried out easily and decentrally and does not require any special infrastructure work in advance,” explains Stefan Pins, automation engineer at Henke
The dashboard is mainly used to check the current parking situation and to analyze the parking spaces. In addition, the TicketPilot app is often used at Henkel to address drivers specifically if they are standing in the truck parking spaces for too long.
Transformation
“For example, we can now analyze very precisely at which times of day our spaces are particularly busy. At our central registration point, we now also get a very precise picture of how long trucks spend in a parking space on average. Key performance indicators can also be derived from this.” – Christian Wolf, Head of Site Logistics in Düsseldorf.
Stadtverkehr Detmold GmbH (SVD) is a local transport company in the North Rhine-Westphalian district town of Detmold.
The Challange
Before arriving at the parking lot, it is not known whether parking spaces are available. This is particularly difficult for handicapped and RV parking spaces. The challenge here was to provide parking information in an easily accessible and user-friendly way. It should also be easy for Stadtverkehr Detmold to display this information so that commuters and citizens can access it quickly and effortlessly.
Solution
The parking sensors from Smart City System transmit the occupancy status of a parking space in real time. The real-time occupancy display of the various parking spaces is shown in the free City Pilot app and the real-time data is integrated on Detmold’s own website. Both enable a quick insight into RV and handicapped parking spaces in the city of Detmold.
Transformation
With the City Pilot app, citizens and commuters can see whether a parking space is available before driving to their desired parking lot. This saves them having to drive to a parking lot when it is full. This makes a positive contribution to the time-consuming and environmentally harmful search for a parking space. Citizens with certain restrictions can also use the app to better see how far they can park from their destination.
